Buettner lab goes Midwest

At the end of March, the Buettner lab got to travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to attend the American Chemical Society meeting! Everyday we got to pass by the capitol on our short walk to the convention center, where we got to present our bioinorganic research in a poster session and engage in the theme of “the crossroads of chemistry” by attending lectures, happy hours, and social events.

We landed in Indianapolis on a Saturday, and the next day we were already presenting in the inorganic poster session! We got to meet chemists from all over the world and present what we have been working on in the lab. It was an unforgettable experience seeing how engaged people were with our tiny corner of the chemistry world as we got to talk with them and make connections with other professors, students, and industry workers.

After we presented our research, we got to attend endless lectures covering a huge range of topics. From 8 in the morning to 10 at night there were opportunities to hear passionate chemists show how they are making an impact in the world. We also got to attend the expo and get swag and meet the companies behind the products we use back here in Gettysburg.

After meeting students and professors from big universities and other schools like Gettysburg from all over the country, listening to Nobel Laureate’s presentations, chatting it up with salespeople and industry jobs, it was time to head back to Gettysburg our minds opened to possibilities in chemistry we had never heard of before.
